My favorite festive Christmas destinations in Europe

29 November 2019

Germany is obviously my number one place to spend Christmas, but there are a lot of places around Europe that do it (almost) just as well. There are lots of picturesque towns with great Christmas markets to choose from, but these are my favorite festive Christmas destinations in Europe: … More My favorite festive Christmas destinations in Europe

Hi! My name is Sophie and 2 years ago I quit my job to travel. Best decision of my life. Now I'm a digital nomad and I get to work while I travel the world. The best thing about traveling is all the beautiful things I get to see, the wonderful people I meet and the amazing delicious foods I get to try. I’ve learned a lot on all my adventures, so it only seemed right to share my insight, tips and recommendations with all of you. So whether you are a seasoned traveler or planning your first trip, let me help you out!

How do you guys feel about Christmas markets? Yay or nay? . I personally love them. Nothing better than strolling around with a mug of mulled wine and a snack, listening to cheezy holiday music and browsing the little shops. Tiny artisanal Christmas markets or big touristy ones, I love them all. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (and not just from the alcohol). . The pic above is from the Christmas market in Edinburgh two years ago. Edinburgh is already magical any day of the year, but in December that gets pumped up another notch. So, of course it made my list of the most festive European Christmas destinations. Check out the full list on my blog: http://bit.ly/33NyZox (link in bio) . . . . . #holidayseason #christmasmarket #yuletide #edinburgh #scotland #magicaledinburgh #edinburghchristmas #edinburghchristmasmarket #europeanchristmas #christmasineurope #christmasmarket #happyholidays #decembermagic #tistheseason #hollyjolly #deckthehalls #christmasmagic #beautifuldestinations #europetravel #decembertravel #christmasdestination #christmastravel #exploreeurope #exploreedinburgh #visitedinburgh #harrypottermagic #edinphoto #thisisedinburgh #visitscotland #scotlandmagic
'Tis the season! . I loooove Christmas! It's my favorite time of the year. Even while traveling all around the world, I still make sure I'm home for the holidays with my family. . I've always celebrated Christmas in Germany, so I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to Christmas celebrations. The Germans go all out with their markets, decorations and food. . But did you know that there are lots of very festive destinations in Europe that are perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit? With sparkling lights like these, Copenhagen is obviously one of them! Want to know which other cities made my list? Check out my blog post on the most festive Christmas spots in Europe: http://bit.ly/33NyZox (link in bio). . . . . #tistheseason #decembertravels #decemberdestinations #christmastrip #festivedestinations #christmasineurope #tivoligarden #copenhagen #tivolicopenhagen #copenhagendenmark #denmark #wonderlustcopenhagen #christmaslights #happyholidays #christmasmood #christmasmarkets #featuremevisitcopenhagen #copenhagensworld #passionpassport #europeanchristmas #yuletide #hollyjolly #copenhagendk #beautifulplaces #prettylittletrip #festivevibes #femaletravelbloggers #exploreeurope #visitcopenhagen #homefortheholidays
Merry Sinterklaas! Did you know that in the Netherlands we celebrate Sinterklaas rather than Christmas? . Sinterklaas or Saint Nicholas is the same Turkish bishop that Santa Claus is based on. During his life, he performed a bunch of good deeds and miracles. He also became the patron saint of sailors and was often portrayed with red robes and a long white beard (sounds familiar right?). He died on the 6th of December, which is why we celebrate Sinterklaas on the 5th. . Still with me? Don't worry, I don't get it either. How and why the death of this particular saint turned into a family celebration is a little fuzzy. . But whatever the reason, on the 5th of December, Sinterklaas delivers a bag full of presents for all the good kids and the bad ones get an involuntary trip to Spain. I know which one I would pick... ;) . . . . #Sinterklaas #saintnicholas #santaclaus #dutchtraditions #pakjesavond #5december #christmas #happyholidays #holidayseason #celebrations #nationalholiday #dankusinterklaasje #stockholm #stockholmcentralstation #strangehistory #sweden #christmasineurope #tistheseason #christmasseason #hollyjolly #hoorwiekloptdaar #dutchholidays #feestdagen #didyouknow #giftgiving #presents #indezaknaarspanje #naughtyornice #christmastime #christmasdecorations
Did you see my post from earlier this week introducing you to the Three Sisters? I'd like to now introduce their Latvian siblings: the Three Brothers. . The funny thing with these buildings is that they weren't originally called the Three Brothers. But when the Three Sisters in Tallinn started to become famous, Riga thought: we can do that do. So they nicknamed these three historical buildings the Three Brothers. . Wherever the name might come from, the buildings are really pretty. They are three of the remaining truly old buildings in Riga, all build in different periods, with different styles and a different color. Cute, aren't they? It's appropriate that they now house the Latvian Museum of Architecture . . . . #riga #rigalatvia #rigaoldtown #threebrothers #threebrothersriga #museumofarchitecture #rigastories @liveriga @rigaofficial #witsriga #visitlatvia #visitriga #colorfulbuildings #historicarchitecture #rigaarchitecture #exploreeurope #balticstates #visitbaltics #tourismlatvia #solofemaletravel #passionpassport #alltheplacesyoullgo #travelwithme #womenwhotravel #girlslovetravel #wanderlustravel #hiddengems #hitoriccities #europeanhistory #beautifulplaces #travelbucketlist #thisislatvia
Isn't it funny how every time you visit a place you can have a completely different experience? . The first time I visited Stockholm was 8 years ago to see a friend who was there on exchange. But when I went back a few weeks ago I felt completely disoriented. It seemed like a completely different city and I didn't recognize it at all. . I ended up doing completely different things than the first time around and seeing a whole other side of the city. Instead of catching up and drinking with my friend, I did all the touristy things, ate tons of cinnamon buns (obviously) and took in all the sights. Despite the dreary November weather, I had a great time! . Did you ever have this feeling of finding a whole new city when you visited somewhere a second time? . . . . . #stockholm #stockholmsweden #visitstockholm #tourismsweden #sweden #visitsweden #europeancities #scandinavia #nordicliving #nordicculture #autumntravels #lowseason #novemberweather #discoversweden #discovereurope #explorescandinavia #beautifulplaces #passionpassport #northerneurope #stayandwander #goandexplore #traveltheworld #europetrip #sheisnotlost #femaletravelblogger #rediscoverplaces #openyoureyes #touristtravel #stockholmoldtown#gamlastan
Meet the Three Sisters! . These lovely ladies have called Tallinn their home since 1362. The street on which they stand was the epicentre of trade in spices, meats and grains. Build as merchant houses, the buildings have housed guild members, mayors, town councilors and foreign travelers. . That tradition lives on as the Three Sisters are now merged into one boutique hotel. . All around Tallinn you can find historic buildings like these. Each with their stories. The Three Sisters have plenty of their although most are probably not true. But legend or not, they are definitely beautiful! . . . . #tallinn #threesisters #threesisterstallinn #3stallinn #boutiquehotel #prettylittletrip #dreamtravels #historiccity #tallinnoldtown #solofemaletravel #baltictrip #balticstates #estonia #visitestonia #visittallinn #exploretheworld #traveltheworld #wanderlusttravel #girlswhotravel #dreamaccommodation #beautifulplaces #exploreeurope #girlstraveleurope #discoverestonia #tallinngram #travelholic #travelblog #tallinnestonia #femaletravelblogger #threesistershotel
