From pizza and pasta to ice cream and coffee, Italian cuisine is world-famous and beloved by millions. Ask anyone what their favorite food is, and they will likely answer: Italian. But did you know that there are far more things to eat in Italy than those staples you grew up with?

There is an art to finding the best things to eat in Italy

Which is why I cannot simply tell you to try pasta or risotto or pizza. Although you should definitely try all of those. After all, the whole country is a foodie heaven. Seriously, I have traveled all over Italy and have had some of the best meals of my life there. But you can’t just walk into any restaurant and expect mindblowing food. You have to know where to look and how to avoid falling into tourist traps.

Which is why I wrote these rules about finding good food in Italy

Food in Italy is all about the experience, not just the meal. There are a lot of incredible food experiences you can have in Italy, from learning how to make pasta to hunting for truffles. Italy has an incredibly rich culinary tradition with strong regional roots. In fact, some of the most famous products, Parmesan cheese, Parma ham and specific wines, can only be produced in certain areas and according to strict rules. The way they serve pasta in the North of Italy is completely different from the South. Each region has their own preferred ingredients and century old recipes that get passed down through the generations.
