Glasgow has long suffered from its reputation as Edinburgh’s ‘uglier sister’. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have anything to offer. Glasgow has a very interesting mixture of architecture due to its industrial history. And although its a little rough around the edges, Glasgow has plenty of culture to enjoy.
1. Necropolis and cathedral
The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery in perfect condition. It is both beautiful and macabre. Visit the Cathedral next door as well, it is absolutely stunning.
2. Glasgow University
Glasgow University is what your Harry Potter dreams are made off. Walking around this Gothic castle will feel like stepping back in time.
3. Visit a museum
Glasgow museums are free, so escape the rain and enjoy some culture. I recommend the Gallery of Modern Art for lovers of contemporary art. Kilgrove Museum and Art Gallery is housed in a beautiful building and offers both art and natural history, kids will enjoy it too!
4. Walking tour
There are no tour companies offering free walking tours in Glasgow yet, but some enthusiastic Couchsurfers organize one every Saturday.
5. Eat and drink
Glasgow is the most vegan-friendly cities in the UK, with vegan and vegetarian international cuisine on every street corner. Glasgow also houses plenty of pubs and bars. Definitely check out Waxy though, with their fairytale interior.
Glasgow – yess. University with its museums. Necropolis. Pubs, restaurants and bars – you must know the best ones – Mother India, Opium, Ubiquitos Chip, Byres rd etc. The path along River Kelvin. Riverside museum, People’s Palace. Soo many good memories.
